
Connemara Pony Show Festival
A festival of pony filled activities in Mid August annually! From parades, to musical evenings, to discussion and talks with the highlight of the week being the Connemara Pony Show on Thursday. This is a world famous event attracting visitors from all over the world. With a history dating back to 1924, there are over 400 ponies on show. It is the largest display of Connemara Ponies anywhere in the world.Visitors are treated to the spectacle of seeing the ponies demonstrate their prowess in trials and competitions under the watchful eye of experienced judges and a win is always a source of great pride for the pony’s dedicated owner.The Connemara Pony is a distinctive breed with excellent qualities: strong, intelligent and very hard working, perfect for the wild unforgiving landscape of Connemara, the Galway region that gave them their name. Their genial disposition makes them excellent pets while their powerful build makes them good jumpers and great show ponies. Every year on the third Thursday of August the Connemara Pony Breeders hold their annual show in the Showgrounds in Clifden, attracting thousands from all over Ireland, Europe and beyond. Connemara International Marathon (Connemarathon) – 2020
The Connemara International Marathon is one of the world’s most scenic events, set in the stunning landscape of the West of Ireland. Runners and walkers travel from all over the world to take part in the Connemarathon. It’s well worth it – all participants get to experience some of Ireland’s most breath-taking scenery along the way. The event is comprised of: Half marathon Full marathon Ultra (39.3 mile) marathon International participants enjoy a warm Irish welcome along with the sense of comradeship on the route and the unmistakable buzz of the day. SKODA Tour de Conamara Cycling Event – 2020
The very popular SKODA Tour de Conamara 2020 will be held on Saturday 23rd May 2020 starting and finishing in Clifden, Connemara. The event offers participants the choice of stunning 140km or 80km routes and will travel through magnificent coastal, lakeland, valley and mountainous vistas. More info @ http://tourdeconamara.ie Register early as this event reaches capacity very quickly. The Tour de Conamara is not a closed road event. You must adhere to the normal rules of the road. Feed Stations will be located along the routes. First Aid will be available on the day. A ‘No Helmet No Cycle’ policy will be strictly enforced. The events operates a ‘Leave No Trace’ litter policy. Please bring home your litter. Punctures: Please ensure you can change a puncture and bring spare tubes. It may be some time before support can arrive to a spot where a cyclist may have picked up a puncture so please ensure you can change your own wheel or cycle with someone that will assist you to avoid long delays that will impact on your enjoyment of the day. Clifden Traditional Music Festival – 2020
Experience a beautiful town being taken over by the best of Irish music, song and dance! The annual Clifden Traditional Music Festival, known locally as Trad Fest, takes place from in April in Clifden, Connemara. Trad Fest highlights include: CD Launches Tune Composition Competition Music Sessions, Concerts Workshops Outdoor Gig Performances 5K Run/Walk Street Entertainment Busking competition. Musicians will travel from all over the country for the festival. The Leenane Walking Festival – 2020
A full weekend of walks and events for walkers of all abilities. A chance to experience hills and trails that aren’t normally accessible to the general public. All guided walks are led by qualified and experienced guides, aided by locals with vast knowledge and information on the area. Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided as well as tea/coffee & scones at various local businesses at the end of each day. All walkers are covered by Public Liability Insurance.
