Lough Nafooey is set in a steep-sided valley, surrounded by the rugged Maumturk mountains to the south and Mayo’s Partry mountains to the north. The lough is a rectangular glacial lake and is approximately 2.5 miles long and 0.5 miles wide. A sandy beach is nestled at the edge of the lake and it is ideal for a swim or a picnic lunch on a sunny day. The general locality offers a good range of walks, catering for walkers of all levels. It is a popular site with photographers, walkers and fishermen. The closest village is Finny and the picturesque villages of Clonbur, Maum and Leenane are just a short drive away.
